Elke Prieß
Moments
In this serie I took the photos without any help and accompaniment. In these moments at night, outside and alone I felt particulary close to nature, no matter whether it was - in the garden, in the forest or in the fields. While standing still, I was trying to capture intensely the atmosphere around me - for myself and for the photo. The interaction of the environment with the light and the frozen person enables new metaphors.

Born in the northern part of Germany, Elke Prieß grew up in a creative environment. After school she studied art education at Göttingen College and subsequently arts at the Academy of Arts, Bremen, graduating with a diploma in painting. She did not only take part in numerous exhibitions in Europe, but also worked as an art teacher, as a science of art assistant at the University of Vechta, as an artistic director and as a curator in Cuxhaven, Bremen and Bremerhaven. Her artistic work includes painting, experimental printing, textile objects and performance art.
In my artistic work with light in the landscape I want to emphasize our connection and dependency to nature as a quiet moment. By limiting myself to a few reference points and by focussing, I try to show my respect to the natur. The light points up the spezial importance. It is significant for me to do this in full concentration. That's why I performe and take photos without any help or supervision. In these moments at night, outside and alone I feel particulary close to nature, no matter where it is - in the garden, in the forest or in the fields. While standing motionless, I am trying to capture intensely the atmosphere around me. The interaction of the environment with the light and my person enables visions.
