Helena Goldwater

I was thinking about the light / dark that happens in the action of drawing with marble and hair. How do we create a sense of place, when the ability to see clearly is hidden or revealed by one’s own movements or behaviour?

Goldwater’s work has been shown at many galleries and festivals, nationally and internationally, including: 1st Venice International Performance Art Week, Italy; Tate [Britain + Liverpool]; and de Appel, Amsterdam. She has recently co-curated (with Rob La Frenais, Alex Eisenberg/ Live Art Development Agency) an online resource about 1980s UK-based Performance Art events, Edge of an Era: www.edgeofanera.co.uk

Helena Goldwater makes performance art and paintings, amongst other things. Her performances often last many hours and her paintings can take months to complete. This dedication to process is a way of exploring how concepts can be developed over time to inhabit something ‘other’, questioning the positioning of subjectivity and transforming the everyday into a devotional act.
