Sophia Natasha Wei

(b.1982, Singapore) pursues performance art as her main artistic expression. Her performances address the human condition, which she hopes her audience could re-create personal meanings and discover new experiences from. The corporeal endurance of the female body to achieve empathy is expressed through her visual language, where she works regularly with confines of space, distorted beauty and vignettes of dreamlike fantasy. In recent years, her works have evolved to present the liminal zone between painterly images and live action. She is an active contributor to the Singapore arts landscape with her artistic practice and work in education.

Statement
The world is only a temporary space on earth, and our lives are short-lived existences in this world. My art cradles you to the in-between between knowing and experiencing, thinking and feeling. Nothing lasts, really.

(متولد، 1982، سنگاپور) پرفورمنس‏آرت را به عنوان هدف اصلی هنری اش دنبال می‏کند. اجراهای وی، شرایط و وضعیت بشر را بیان می‏دارند، او امیدوار است مخاطبانش معانی خودشان را دوباره ایجاد کنند و از آن تجارب جدیدی کشف کنند. مقاومت بدن زنانه، برای رسیدن به همدلی از طریق زبان بصری اش، جایی که اجرهایش در فضای محدود زیبایی تحریف شده و تصاویر خیالی خواب مانندی، بیان می‏شود. در سال‏های اخیر ، کارهای وی متشکل از آستانه‏ای بین تصاویر نگارگری و اجراهای زنده است.

دنیا محل گذر است، و زندگی‏های ما کوتاه. هنر من گهواره‏ای برای تو است تا بفهمی که بین آنچه میدانی  و آنچه تجربه می‏کنی، آنچه فکر می‏کنی و احساس می‏کنی، هیچ چیز پایدار نیست.
